Meet Kim
Besides being a good girl, I’m an empowerment expert, author and professional speaker.

Kim Shannon
I’m also a heart-centered entrepreneur and co-creator of The SHINE Factor helping people worldwide find their power and let it shine. I co-authored the SHINE Cards & Companion Guidebook in 2011, and am the author of the upcoming book, The Good Girl Addiction. I’m a certified Career & Soul Mate Intuitive Coach, and the creator of The SHINE Principles: 11 Steps to Empowerment.
In 2009, I was at the tail end of two ill-fated relationships. One was my relationship with the man I thought would be my forever partner, and the other was with Pinot Grigio. At the same time, I also embarked on a new entrepreneurial venture, The SHINE Factor, with my mom, Mimi. You know what they say, “As one (or two in my case) door closes, another one opens. For me, the new door was my saving grace. The SHINE Factor kept my going, kept me sane, kept me from falling back into the arms of addiction.
Through the process of building a successful business from scratch, I had to confront the “good girl ways” that kept me stuck and addicted to playing small (yes, addiction comes in all shapes and sizes!)—the part of me that fed off other people’s approval, worried constantly if I was doing it right, got on my case when I didn’t live up to expectations, tried to do it perfectly and felt shame when perfection wasn’t possible. I also had to battle my ability to hold my tongue even when I had something really, really, really important to say and deal with an extreme lack of self-confidence. I had an inner critic so bossy that I named her Lucy because (just like she did to Charlie Brown) she was relentless in letting me know that I would never, ever be good enough. Geesh! It was difficult to believe in myself and create the life of my dreams with all this negative behavior going on!

Mom and Me
Before teaming up with my mom, Mimi, to create The SHINE Factor, I made my mark in the world of publishing. As the Director of Photographer Relations for AMERICA 24/7, I was responsible for hiring and managing 1,000 top professional photographers across the United States playing a crucial role in the production of 51 coffee table books. For the America At Home and UK At Home titles, I managed the design and programming of two websites, and as a result developed two critical online distribution channels in the US and UK. For the Planet Project, I managed a team of 20 developers from six different companies to create and launch three separate websites in eight languages reaching 1.2 million people in 241 countries. I hold a BA in Communications graduating Cum Laude from Iona College in New York.
What else, I guess just this…I’m a lover of red clogs, mani/pedis, black cats, Australian Shepherds, evolved men, and my sweet son, Jack. I love worn-in hiking boots on a dirt trail, birds in flight, singing at the top of my lungs, San Francisco, writing words and speaking on stage. My friends and family make me warm and fuzzy and I am forever grateful for their support.
Oh, and one more thing, I love my soapbox. Huh? I suppose you’re asking, “What does a soapbox have to do with it?”
A lot.
One, it makes me oh-so-much taller and two, it allows me to be seen and heard over the din when I exclaim, “Good Girls are GREAT, and most of the time we don’t even know it!”
I’m determined that we know it.
I’m determined that all good girls find the freedom, power and fulfillment we deserve. This is my mission. This is my purpose. This is my line in the sand.
It’s a good line!
xo
